Event Description
The Friends of the Broadway extend an invitation to all area poets to submit poetry to the Second Annual Poetry Contest at the Broadway Theatre on March 3, 2012 at 2:00 PM.
The poetry contest provides an area-wide forum recognizing local writers for their creative writing and performance abilities. Poets are divided into four categories: elementary (2-6), intermediate (7-8), high school (9-12), and adult. Entries in each category will be pre-judged based on the written entry, and complete the judging process through an oral performance.
First, second, and third place entries in each category will receive a cash prize and certificate, with all entries receiving certificates of appreciation. The judging panel will consist of three judges.
Poems should be no more than forty-two lines and poets may submit no more than two poems. Contestants must perform their poem orally for award consideration. Vulgar or profane language will disqualify the entry. Poetry submissions due by February 21, 2012 and should be sent to West Intermediate School, c/o Jodi Roed, 440 S. Bradley, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858. Entry forms available on the Friends of the Broadway web site at www.friendsofthebroadway.org, the Veterans Memorial Library in Mt. Pleasant, the Downtown Development Office at Mt. Pleasant City Hall, and on www.downtownmp.com at http://www.downtownmp.com/EditableContent/Documents/Broadway%20Poetry%20Contest%20Application%202012%20ver%202.pdf . Questions can be email to Jodi Roed at jroed@mtpleasant.edzone.net.
