MidMichigan’s Gratiot Maternity Center Earns MI AIM Designation

ALMA, Mich. – MidMichigan Medical Center – Gratiot is taking steps to keep mothers and babies safe during delivery and improve birth outcomes. The Medical Center’s Maternity Center was recently recognized with Bronze Designation by the Michigan Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (MI AIM). The honor was announced during the 2nd Annual Maternal Infant Health Summit held in Lansing earlier this spring. The Maternity Centers of MidMichigan Health Medical Centers in Alpena and Midland also received the Bronze Designation, as well.
The MI AIM Designation criteria awarded hospitals for participation in the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health's safety bundle initiative. In Michigan, 62 percent of all birthing hospitals, including MidMichigan, are participating in starting the implementation of the obstetrics hemorrhage and severe hypertension in pregnancy safety bundles.
“We are proud of all three of our hospitals on attaining the bronze recognition,” said Tonia Vanwieren, B.S.N., R.N., system nursing director, maternal child health, MidMichigan. “We have very engaged health care providers and staff providing excellent care for our patients. We all are committed to working together to ensure our moms, babies and their families receive the very best care possible.”
During the Summit, the Mother Infant Health and Equity Improvement Plan was unveiled by Governor Whitmer; the two main focus areas of the Improvement Plan are zero preventable deaths and zero disparities.
The Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health is a national data-driven maternal safety and quality improvement initiative based on proven implementation approaches to improving maternal safety and outcomes in the U.S. AIM works through state teams and health systems to align national, state, and hospital level quality improvement efforts to improve overall maternal health outcomes.
