MMCC Offers Events Focused On Our Communities

Harrison, MI  September 6, 2017 – Mid Michigan Community College (MMCC) will host several public events in October, which offer unique learning and development opportunities to community members.

Mid will be hosting a Michigan Blood collection drive Noon-5pm Wednesday, September 13 on the Harrison Campus in the Esther C. Conference Room. During September, regular donors may delay giving as back-to-school activities ramp up. To meet the needs of hospital patients and survivors of natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey, donations are urgently needed from new and current donors. MMCC’s Office of Student Oversight presents Be Aware. Personal Safety and Situational Awareness Training 1pm-2:30 Tuesday, September 19 on the Harrison Campus in the Auditorium, and 1pm-2:30pm Wednesday, September 20 on the Mt. Pleasant Campus in the Community Room. Trooper White from the Michigan State Police will present meaningful ways to increase your awareness of your surroundings and how to put safety first, both on campus and in the community. The Clothesline Project will be on display on both of MMCC’s Campuses October 2 through October 13. The Clothesline Project provides evidence that incest, domestic, and sexual violence exists in our communities. Information on how to recognize and prevent violence, reach out to survivors and make a difference in the community is provided at each display of the project. MMCC’s Center for Learning & Leadership presents Leadercast Women. This event is a leadership conference focused on women, broadcasted LIVE and simulcast to hundreds of locations around the world on October 5, 2017 9am – 4pm EST. Mid Michigan Community College will be hosting the event on its Mt. Pleasant campus. Tickets are available online at leadercastwomenmmcc.eventbrite.com. MMCC is excited to host the first annual MMCC Job Fair 12:30pm – 4:30pm Friday, October 6. This event is free and open to the public and will feature many local employers who are interested in hiring qualified local residents. Employers wishing to have a presence at the event should pre-register. The Office of Student Oversight at MMCC and Women’s Aid present Love Shouldn’t Hurt: Dynamics of Domestic Abuse 1:30pm-2:30 Tuesday, October 17 on the Harrison Campus, and 1:30pm-2:30pm Wednesday, October 18 on the Mt. Pleasant Campus. Learn to recognize the phases of domestic abuse, causes of violence, and what part we can all play in reducing the amount of domestic violence in our communities.  For more information about this FREE event, contact Amy Goethe at (989) 386-6622 ext. 256.
