Supervises and coordinates the activities of nursing personnel within the hours of the assigned shift; maintains standards of patient care and manages unplanned events occurring during the shift toward a successful outcome; assists in and makes recommendations to Department Directors in the process of long term discipline, retention, termination, and performance evaluation; assumes responsibility for staff development during the assigned shift in accordance with the staff development plans of the Directors.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assists in maintaining the Hospital’s and Nursing Service’s philosophy through effective nursing care.
- Makes staffing adjustments to meet patient care needs.
- Approves overtime.
- Controls staff by taking appropriate and corrective action.
- Immediately investigates patient care incidents.
- Maintains effective communication with the staff and Nursing Administration.
- Promotes interdepartmental relationships.
Required:
- Must have current RN license in the State of Michigan
- Must have had at least two (2) years of nursing experience
- BLS Certification through American Heart or American Red Cross
- ACLS certification within 3 months of accepting position
Preferred:
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing
- Supervisory experience
