MMI, headquartered in Mt. Pleasant, MI, is proud to announce that our President & CEO, Cherie Johnson, has been selected as the recipient of the Incompass Michigan Apex Award for Transformational Leadership, held at the conference on November 8, 2024.
Incompass Michigan is a statewide network of human service providers committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, optimal independence, and engagement in the community, with enhanced quality and fullness of life.
The Apex awards recognize outstanding achievement in many categories, such as: Outstanding Employer, Outstanding Community Partner, Transformational Leadership, and Lifetime Achievement.
This Transformational Leadership award recognizes those who have made a profound impact in other fields of community rehabilitation by developing and implementing creative leadership strategies, fostering valuable collaborations, and breaking down barriers to achieve transformational outcomes for people with disabilities. Whether through advocacy, innovative programs, groundbreaking partnership models, or published research, this award celebrates those who have truly changed that game in a positive way.
During the award ceremony, it was stated that Cherie embodies everything this award stands for.  She has been a driving force in the field, inspiring change and creating lasting impact through her vision and leadership. Her commitment to excellence and unwavering dedication to the individuals and communities served by MMI have set a standard to which other organizations aspire to achieve.
Cherie's work at MMI has been a testament to what is possible when one combines passion with strategy, vision with execution, and leadership with a heart for service. This award represents a well-deserved honor for a remarkable leader.  In her acceptance speech, Cherie noted that no leader acts independently of others and she praised the MMI team for its ongoing dedication to the organization’s mission of developing inclusive communities. She also thanked her peers at other community rehabilitation organizations for their unwavering support of people with disabilities throughout Michigan.
