The renovation and expansion project at MyMichigan Medical Center Clare is proceeding as scheduled. The exterior framing of the Emergency Department and second floor is complete as crews turn their focus on the interior of the expanded Emergency Department, as well as the new all private patient rooms on the second level.
As part of the next stages of the project, patient parking will soon be impacted. Beginning Monday, April 21, the parking lot in front of the main entrance to the MyMichigan Medical Office building located on the campus of the Medical Center will not be accessible. This change is a result of the installation of new water and wastewater lines. Construction fencing will be in place and the parking lot closure is expected to last three to four weeks.
Patients seeing providers or needing to access services in the Medical Office building should enter the campus from Beech Street and use the available parking or side street parking and enter the building using Entrance B. Patients needing assistance getting to or from their cars while receiving services in the Medical Office building are encouraged to contact their provider’s offices to make arrangements prior to their appointments.
Urgent Care patients are asked to use the main Medical Center parking lot off of McEwan Street and use the Medical Office Building main entrance. The main Medical Center and Emergency Department entrances and associated parking lots will not be affected by this current construction phase.
“We know this will severely limit patient parking on our campus and we ask that patients, visitors and our neighboring business partners be patient as we work through this temporary disruption,” said Marita Hattem-Schiffman, F.A.C.H.E., C.P.M.S.M., president, MyMichigan Medical Centers in Alma, Clare and Mt. Pleasant. “At the completion of this project we will have completed a $40 million investment in the health of our community. These minor disruptions will be worth the wait.”
Staff will continue to utilize the extra parking lots at the Doherty Hotel, designated spots at Huntington Bank and designated employee parking to ensure main campus parking is available for patients. City Hall has opened its lot for additional patient parking.
“Patients are at the center of everything we do,” added Hattem-Schiffman. “I am grateful to our neighboring businesses for graciously allowing our team and patients to utilize their parking lots.”
This first phase of the expansion and revitalization project, which is currently under construction, includes a new Emergency Department, a new Inpatient Unit with all private rooms and an expanded Imaging Department, including a fixed MRI Unit. The changes will provide patients easier access to the Medical Center for 24/7 outpatient services including lab, X-ray and CT imaging. The project goal is to move into the new space by the end of this year.
Phase Two of the project will include construction of a new Medical Center main entrance and canopy and remodeling much of the first floor.
A fundraising campaign hosted by the MyMichigan Health Foundation is currently underway to ensure the 51,000 square-foot renovation and expansion project at the Medical Center is well-equipped for the ongoing needs of the communities served.
