Position Title | COORDINATOR OF STARLAB |
Position Summary | The Coordinator of Speciation, Traces, Analyses and Radioisotopes laboratory (STARLAB) oversees the continuous operation and improvement of all lab analyses of samples for trace elements in geological, environmental, and engineered matrixes. The coordinator is responsible for organizing, scheduling, and working with a team composed of postdocs, PhD students and undergraduate students, as well as for supporting relations with external industry partners. |
Required Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or geochemistry. 6 years of related experience including 5 years of experience working in a cleanroom. Strong skills in analytical chemistry applied to trace elements. Demonstrated experience in using, maintaining, and troubleshooting ICP-MS instruments. Demonstrated experience with Ion Chromatography (IC) techniques. |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree in chemistry or geochemistry. Prior experience with coupling IC with ICP-MS instruments. Prior experience with gamma spectrometry. Prior experience with utilizing anaerobic chamber. Prior lab managerial experience. Prior experience in training lab users. |
Duties & Responsibilities | Coordinates the STARLAB operations that include operation of lab instrumentation (Clean Room, Ion Chromatography, ICP-MS, Gamma Counter, Anaerobic Chamber) Organizes samples and sample processing for research projects. Supports corporate relations and partnerships with local and regional industry partners. Conducts data analysis of the samples. Responsible for qualify control. Coordinates lab users. Oversees supplies and services needed for the lab operations. Trains students, postdocs, and visiting scholars. Aids in the development and execution of research activities. Serves as the building coordinator for Center for Research and Advanced Technology (CART) lab space at CMURC. |
